In writing the newest chapter in a 30-plus-year history of successful service to SSM Healthcare-St. Louis, Guarantee served as the single source electrical design and installation contractor for this $236 million project. The new 154-bed acute care hospital features four levels of patient rooms, eight operating suites, 12 imaging rooms and an emergency room with 30 treatment rooms, plus a medical office building and ambulatory facility. 

Initially, Guarantee engineers used 3D modeling within a web-based server system to achieve real-time electrical design-engineering coordination with the mechanical and architectural disciplines. On any given day, up to 10 Guarantee engineers and designerscontributed to the effort.

Subsequently, every Guarantee operations department participated in or contributed to installing power, lighting, emergency, technology, data, fire alarm and security systems. Overall, manpower averaged 70 craft workers per day, peaking near 150. The project was completed with zero safety incidents.

Guarantee applied two team-building concepts, “Lean Construction” and “Constructability,” to optimize cost-effective, efficient project delivery. The externally focused “Lean Construction” initiative led Guarantee to energize cooperative working relationships among all trades, enabling them to more clearly see the “big picture” and effectively contribute to developing realistic schedules. 

The internally focused “Constructability” effort saw Guarantee engineers produce simplified construction drawings that precisely detailed electrical installation instructions for each given area. All members of the Guarantee team – designers, managers, field supervisors and craft workers – contributed concepts that enhanced quality or cut costs.
